After shedding over 80 pounds in 2020 through traditional methods such as working out and following a high-protein diet, Wilson faced the challenge of sustaining her progress. With a busy schedule that includes raising her almost 3-year-old daughter, Royce, and her career, finding time to exercise for more than two hours daily became impractical. Her doctor suggested GLP-1 medications, which she sometimes uses to help manage her weight.
Wilson reported a positive response to these medications, allowing her to maintain her weight without significant fluctuations. She views the use of GLP-1s as a practical tool, especially during hectic periods when her responsibilities increase. By incorporating them into her routine, she avoids sudden weight gain that could occur if she were to neglect her health.
Balancing nutrition while on these medications can be challenging, but Wilson has found a convenient solution: beef tacos. This meal includes vegetables and protein, making it ideal for her lifestyle. She notes that the dish isn't high in carbs and provides iron from the beef, which she enjoys preparing.
When it comes to snacks, Wilson's choices are unconventional. She mentions that she often turns to peanut M&Ms after seeing them praised on a TV show as a healthier junk food option. Additionally, she relies on Manchego cheese for its high protein content and calcium.
Her workout routine reflects the realities of being a parent. Wilson integrates physical activity into her time with her daughter, such as walking around the block or doing stretches while watching TV. She also makes time for strength training whenever possible, recognizing its importance for lean muscle mass. Even short sessions, like 20 minutes a day, are valuable, and she uses creative methods, such as lifting her daughter as a form of resistance training.
Since becoming a mother, Wilson’s perspective on health has evolved. She emphasizes the importance of being healthy to keep up with her daughter, whether it's playing on the playground or engaging in activities together. This shift has led her to adopt a more compassionate approach toward herself, reducing negative self-talk and embracing acceptance when her schedule doesn’t allow for perfect health habits.
