Actor Eric Dane, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy, has taken a powerful step in his journey by partnering with I Am ALS, an organization dedicated to funding research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a devastating neurodegenerative disease. This collaboration marks a significant moment in Dane’s life, especially after he publicly shared his ALS diagnosis in April.

In a heartfelt Instagram video released on Monday, Dane addressed the public, sharing his personal story and the urgent need for progress in the fight against ALS. “I am Eric, an actor, a father, and now a person living with ALS,” he began, his voice slightly slurred, a common symptom of the disease. “For over a century, ALS has been incurable, and we’re done accepting the status quo.”

Dane emphasized the importance of accelerating the search for a cure, highlighting the Push for Progress initiative, which aims to raise one billion dollars over the next three years. “Together, we’ll renew the landmark law Act for ALS, give promising treatments to thousands of patients like me, and finally, push towards ending this disease,” he said. He encouraged viewers to visit the donation link provided and to join the movement, urging immediate action.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, leading to progressive muscle paralysis. As the disease progresses, individuals may lose the ability to speak, eat, move, and breathe. According to the ALS Association, the degeneration of motor neurons results in the loss of voluntary muscle control, making it a particularly challenging condition to manage.

Despite his health challenges, Dane was set to reunite with his Grey’s Anatomy co-star Jesse Williams at the 2025 Emmys. However, he ultimately withdrew from the event, leaving Williams to present the trophy for Drama Series Directing himself. The reason for his absence remains undisclosed.
