Health Dept: Springfield Restaurant Implements Risk Control Plans Amid Mouse Poop Report

Springfield Restaurant Faces Multiple Risk Control Plans
A Springfield restaurant, It's Greek to Me, located at 2825 S. Glenstone Ave. in the Battlefield Mall, was placed on two risk control plans this week due to violations identified during an inspection conducted by the Springfield-Greene County Health Department. The restaurant was placed on a risk control plan for pest control and another for hot holding. This comes after repeated violations were noted, including issues with food temperatures and the presence of mouse feces.
During the Sept. 16 inspection, it was found that the gyro meat was being kept below the required temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, mouse droppings were discovered in several areas, including under the counter, behind the soda cooler, on a box of napkins, around soda bags, and in the deep chest freezers area. These findings represent repeat violations, which can lead to more severe consequences if not addressed promptly.
A risk control plan is designed to identify the specific risks associated with the violation, outline the necessary steps to ensure food safety, and provide guidance on how the establishment can meet these requirements. These plans are critical in maintaining high standards of hygiene and preventing foodborne illnesses.
Understanding Violations: Priority vs. Non-Priority
Food inspections categorize violations into priority and non-priority. Priority violations directly impact food safety and include issues such as cross-contamination between raw and ready-to-eat foods, improper food temperatures, and poor personal hygiene. If multiple priority violations are found, an establishment may be shut down until the issues are resolved. Non-priority violations, while not immediately dangerous, can still affect the overall cleanliness and operation of a food establishment. Examples include dirty floors, sticky tabletops, or uncovered trash cans.
Restaurants that prepare food from raw ingredients typically undergo more frequent inspections than those serving non-potentially hazardous items like popcorn or soda. Consumers interested in understanding whether a violation is a one-time issue or a recurring problem are encouraged to review previous inspection reports.
